Lighting To Match The Colour Of The Year 2020

It’s a new year, which means we have a brand new Pantone colour of the year! 2020’s shade is ‘classic blue’, a vivid hue that’s perfect for interior design.

PANTONE 19-4052 Classic Blue –‘Instilling calm, confidence, and connection, this enduring blue hue highlights our desire for a dependable and stable foundation on which to build as we cross the threshold into a new era.’

If you’re looking to update your home with this exciting shade, we’re going to look at how you can inject classic blue into each room and which light fixtures are perfect for making this shade, pop!

Let’s start our classic blue house tour….

Living Room

The living room or lounge area is a great place to add a splash of colour. If you’re prone to changing the decor in your living room, you may want to opt for a painted feature wall in classic blue. This way, you only have one wall to change when you find out next year’s colour! If you have a period home and you’re lucky enough to have a fireplace, opt for a wall as your feature wall. The bright shade will create a stunning framing effect for your period feature.

Now for lighting!

This shade is perfect for metallic lights, especially pendant lighting. A contemporary copper or brushed gold pendant light would look stunning as a contrast to the classic blue. Our favourite pairing for the living room has to be this Endon ceiling pendant in antique copper. The patterned inner is a great centrepiece for a living room and adds another layer of texture to your space.

Kitchen

Another great way to inject new colours into your space is through your decor, and there are plenty of classic blue accessories that will make your kitchen ‘pop’. Decorating a kitchen can be a massive job so by choosing accessories that you can easily swap out, you can enjoy Pantone’s shade as you cook up a storm. Look for decorative items such as ornaments, candle holders, storage canisters and more. If you have a kitchen/diner you can also incorporate this shade through crockery, table runners and seat pads.

Classic blue kitchen lighting

Matte black goes really well with classic blue and this Diyas Kristoff pendant light would look spectacular combined with pops of the Pantone shade. The cage design of this kitchen pendant light gives this design an industrial vibe that’s still very much on-trend. Pair with recessed spotlights under cabinets and you have a look that will take you through 2020 in style.

Hallway

The hallway is often the first impression that your guests have of your home, so it’s a great place to start showcasing your personal style. Wall art is a great addition to a hallway, whether it’s framed art prints, canvases, personal photographs or wall decor. Classic blue can be incorporated into your hallway through your artwork or through the frames you choose for them. This shade looks beautiful framing black and white artwork as well as contrasting perfectly with flashes of copper or gold.

Complement your hallway with lighting

We think the hallway is the perfect place to really up the ‘wow’ factor when it comes to lighting! This beautiful Alfa ceiling light in copper is bound to turn heads and eyes upwards thanks to the modern design. The exposed lightbulbs will illuminate even the darkest of hallways and the warm copper shade will ensure your classic blue decor really stands out. The same rules apply for your stairway lighting!

Bedroom

If you’re anything like us, your bedroom is the place where the decor changes the most! One look at a new duvet cover set and you’re already planning a room overhaul. A classic blue duvet set is the ideal starting point for your transformation but you don’t have to stop there. Just like the living room, a feature wall looks fantastic in a bedroom and will give you the opportunity to add wall art and prints around the space with flashes of this popular shade. Another way to add classic blue to the bedroom is through your window decor. A roller blind or curtains in this shade is a great option if you’re not ready to commit to getting out the paintbrush.

Classic blue bedroom lighting

Stepping away from the copper, this time we’re pairing classic blue with sleek silver in the form of a bedroom pendant light. Any metallic shade would look great with this colour but the Dar Lighting Phillipa ceiling light is our favourite! The intricate design will hang beautifully over the bed and the silver colour will contrast well with the drama of the deep blue hue.
